House Bill 1 (HB1) was passed in the Kentucky Senate 30-6 on March 9, 2022 and is now headed conference committee. KASS is working hard to make sure the final piece of legislation is the most impactful and makes a positive difference on Kentucky students and public schools.

As a result, KASS is urging lawmakers to include in HB1, four common ground measures, including:

  1. Fully funding transportation so that students and parents can safely get to school and focus on learning rather than worrying if and when they’ll get picked up or dropped off by their school bus.
  2. Fund full-day kindergarten to help empower students from all backgrounds.
  3. Increase SEEK funding because we are investing less per student (indexed for inflation) currently than we did decades ago.
  4. Give school districts more freedom by providing the much-needed resources to help boards of education and superintendents ensure student success at school, work and in the community.
